Electronic Media

Due to the ever-changing nature of the internet, a lot of my work in the realm of the World Wide Web now only exists as a series of screen grabs. However, because of my frequent dabbling in the field of web design, there are still live examples to be shown off as well.

Despite starting college when the web as we know it now was in its infancy, I received absolutely no training whatsoever in this field in school. I suppose to be fair, I should give my institution of higher learning the benefit of the doubt. The very concept of web design was new to everyone, so I suppose I shouldn't have expected people who were still learning it themselves to teach it at the college level. Still, I would have expected at least a nod to be given to the subject by 1998, the year I graduated.

But no nod was given, and so I went to my first job in the field, and when I was given the task of building a new web site, I had no idea what I was doing. Still, neither did my employers, so that turned out fairly okay. I got another chance at my next job. By then I had taken up the challenge and started to force myself to learn how to write HTML code, while at the same time starting to get an inkling of how to make the best graphics for the web.

Those efforts turned out even better, although the site I designed for the company didn't come to fruition until some time after I'd been "made redundant." I had already moved on to yet another employer, with a web site that looked like a time warp back to 1995. The year was 2002 when we finally got around to redesigning it, and once again I was given a part. But I'd still only barely just heard of this thing called "cascading style sheets..."

Well, I'm still learning CSS and how to use it to its full potential. This site is supposed to be a step in the right direction. This gallery here documents my learning process. You might see some pretty horrific stuff in here from a web design standpoint. Don't say I didn't warn you.
