Grishny's Doodle Depository

According to dictionary.com, to doodle is "to draw or scribble idly". Or as a noun, a doodle is " a design, figure, or the like, made by idle scribbling". The Wikipedia article on doodling describes it as "a mindless sketch" or "an aimless drawing," made while the doodler's attention is otherwise engaged.

I therefore must confess that not every image that you may see in my depository is truly a doodle by the strictest of definitions. I actually concentrated on drawing some of them. But most of them are true doodles, drawn during class, church, or meetings at work. And, since this is my collection, I get to call it what I want to, and so I am calling everything in this collection a doodle. And so are you.

I subscribe to the theory that doodles are the basis for all art. Well, maybe not for modern stuff that's all jumbles of geometric shapes or bits of trash welded together, but then I don't really think of that stuff as art so much as an extremely succesful con job. I mean, who else can get away with gluing their dirty laundry, some wood and a few old pieces of cardboard to a frame, painting the whole thing black, and then charging twenty thousand dollars for it? But I digress. I doodle everywhere and on any scrap of paper that's handy. Some of my doodles go straight into the trash, because that's where they belong. Some of the ones I'm going to show you probably belong there, too. But I like them, so I put them in my gallery.

Maybe I should be charging you twenty thousand dollars to look at them.
