I've gone into great detail on how I discovered KoL elsewhere on this site. No point in re-hashing that story then, or talking any more about how addicting the game can be or how much fun it is, etc.
Some people go to check out the Kingdom of Loathing and are pretty unimpressed. But that's because they don't bother to delve below the surface. You can't judge KoL on its appearance. Because Zack "Jick" Johnson knew he couldn't draw worth a hill of beans, he didn't try to make his game impressive visually. Every single game graphic is a simple line drawing, doodles really, and all of the characters and monsters are stick figures.
It's the gameplay that makes KoL work. It's the content, and it's also the interaction with your fellow KoLers. There are countless fan sites, a forum, in-game chat and message systems, and there are even two (at least) fan-operated internet radio stations to listen to.
Oh, and did I mention content? If you grew up in the eighties and nineties, and paid even a little attention to popular culture, then this game will have you falling out of your seat with laughter. Er, I mean, you'll be "ROTFLOL."
