The Kingdom of Loathing

In early August, 2004, all anybody in RinkChat was talking about was a new MMORPG called The Kingdom of Loathing. So I checked it out, registering to play the game on August 8, 2004, which, incidentally and completely unbeknownst to me, was a rather significant day in the game's history. Taking "Johnz the Grey," my Lord of the String character, as my screen name, I started out as a lowly "Sauceror," the KOL character-type that I thought most closely resembled a wizard.

As it turned out, there was no going back. As I write this article about the Kingdom, I am still a registered and active player, over two years and counting. Loathing features some extemely fun and addicting gameplay. There's seemingly something for everyone, and the game is constantly updated with new material and frequent in-game "events" to keep things interesting.

When I started playing KOL, there was a fairly large group of Rinkies exploring the game at the same time. One of the popular features of the game at the time that still exists is the Clan, a voluntary in-game organization of players. Anyone who has logged sufficient playing time can create a clan, and almost every player is a part of one clan or another. Naturally, the Rinky KOLers set up their own exclusive clan and dubbed it "The Fellowship of the Rink."

This area of the Game Chest is devoted to the activities and history of the Rinky Clan. You won't find any game resources here; there are countless sites devoted to KOL hints, walk-throughs, strategies, help tools and other resources, and I see no point in trying to duplicate that content here. If you're looking for resources, the KOL Wiki is an excellent place to start. But if you're interested in reading all about The Fellowship of the Rink, then you're in the right place.
